A first Pools goal for Richie Bennett snatched a late point for Dave Challinor’s side at Meadow Park but that wasn’t the biggest talking point after the game.
An injury to Ben Killip forced forward Rhys Oates to go in goal for the majority of the game as it ended 2-2 to extend Hartlepool’s unbeaten run to 13.

Pools forward Oates saw the funny side as he kept a clean sheet: “Well not how I planned my day going but a clean sheet and another game unbeaten! Onto Saturday.”
Gavan Holohan tweeted: “Considering all that went on in game it’s a good point away to a strong side. Keeps the run going 13 unbeaten. @OatesRhys 1 game - 1 clean sheet #SafeHands.”
Hartlepool fan @JackAshmann posted: “Good performance lads given the circumstances. Take 4 points In 4 days. Robbed of a pen there.”

@paulkeay: “Very good second half performance particularly defensively protecting Oates. How we didn’t get a penalty is scandalous.”
@CharlJenkins_: “Given we spent some the first half and the second half with Oates in goal, can’t complain about getting a point, should have been a penalty though! Hopefully Killip’s injury isn’t too bad but fair play to Oates for stepping up and going in goal.”
@Poolieboy1Les1: “Well played boys, would have settled for the point at the start of play, but what makes the point even better is not having a recognised keeper in goal for the majority of the match.”

@GoodLaughTerry: “Never. Say. Die. Exemplified in that performance. Proud as punch of you lads. Massive game against County on Saturday. Keep going.”
@kate_hufc: “All things considered, I’m over the moon with a point. Defence played spot on, protected Oatesy in the goal. Bennett scored a cracking equaliser. We regroup, we move on and we focus on the next match.”
